What’s your favorite part about visiting a new place — the food? The architecture? The people watching?

I feel that before I answer the question, it would be important to note this one point.

I think it’s the architecture that really drives home the fact that I’m in a foreign place, at least initially. Architecture and environment is what we see and feel at first when we arrive at a new destination.

Immersion into new and undiscovered land can be felt when the environment around us is different.

I love having the feeling of being in a new place, but for that feeling to emerge, the environment would need to be noticeably different and usually this is immediately seen through architecture and the geographical differences.

Imagine traveling to another city across the world that has the same type of buildings, land and design of your home city. While physically you would be in a completely foreign land, the pronounced similarities that the foreign city gives off would feel all too familiar, thus creating a sense that we may have never even left home.

While unique and interesting architectural design is a necessary point for me when traveling to new place, my favorite part of traveling and being in a new place, however, would have to be food.

I am admittedly a minority of many things, but there are some things in this world I cannot deny, such is the case with this old-but-never-forgotten adage:

“The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach”. —Origin unknown

This is part of an effort to improve as a writer and to get myself writing more. So as not to focus so much on perfection and formatting, when responding to these prompts, I use more of a stream-of-conscious style of writing. One of my goals is to become faster at getting my ideas out of my head and onto a physical platform, while keeping in mind to gradually build up my skill at doing so in a more fluid and concise manner.
