If one experience or life change results from you writing your blog, what would you like it to be? Thinking about the kinds of expressions we have as humans, we have “vocal” (the use of our voice), “movement” (the use of our body), and then we have artistic (which I think can be interpreted as the form of transferring ideas from the mind to a physical platform.) Painting images, coloring/sketching/drawing pictures, sculpting statues, constructing buildings, designing computer systems, building websites etc.—I believe these are all artistic forms of expression. Writing is a way of expression and it you want it to be, it can be artistic. I believe writing is literally an extension of the soul. When we write, the words we choose to express ourselves is a reflection of who we are. The same is true for what we say and what we do. These are the forms of expression that contributes to what defines us. The process of writing involves a high level of concentration, patience and perhaps a small dose of creativity that speaking or reading may not require. As a writing teacher, while I have no problem explaining and demonstrating how to construct a thesis, write a five paragraph essay, give a short response to a prompt, research and provide factual evidence and such—give me a task that requires me to write about my personal thoughts and you’ll see me stare at a blinking cursor for days. If there is one experience I’d like to have as a result from writing this blog, I would like it to be the discovery of a deeper understanding of my writing. I would feel greatly fulfilled knowing that writing could be a reliable mode of expression for me, that is, if it is meant to be. This is part of an effort to improve as a writer and to get myself writing more. So as not to focus so much on perfection and formatting, when responding to these prompts, I use more of a stream-of-conscious style of writing. One of my goals is to become faster at getting my ideas out of my head and onto a physical platform, while keeping in mind to gradually build up my skill at doing so in a more fluid and concise manner.
